about

As the title suggests, this album is a bit of a dark horse, displaying both an air of cynicism with regard to society and chagrin over my personal life. And yet with a ray of hope (or tulip in the snow). However, Sometimes is clearly suicidal and now, years later, I have acknowledged that the song 'She Would' is really an example of suicidal tendencies dressed up as romantic despair. I have included the speeded up version of She Would here because I think it's very neat and better than the original speed which you can find on the album Kiss Inside.

1987 was when I shared a house with a friend who had a 4-track so this is the year when i got to record several of my songs. It must have been around this time when I performed a 50-minute set as a support act for an Irish band at the Ilford Labour Hall (now an elaborate Sikh temple). I had just written a song called 'Fucking Society' which I thought was well cool. I stuck the lyric on the mic stand using sellotape but wasn't sure about playing it. At the end I asked the audience if they wished to hear it (bear in mind that this was my first ever gig). I could only really interact with the people sitting at the nearest table to me and they all cheered 'yes.' I didn't need hardly any encouragement anyway so that was that. 'Fucking Society' commencing each verse of that cool fucking song! A colleague and fellow socialist at work had gotten me the gig and both he and the leader of the main band were clearly unimpressed with something!

About four years ago (2010-ish) I had a eureka moment in which I suddenly realised that it was that song they disapproved of and for different reasons. The band was a respectable blues band named Alias Ron Kavana and he was obviously concerned about his reputation. And, as for my colleague, well Labour are all about 'society' so of course the song didn't go down very well with him either! I turned my back on socialism not long after that anyway when i started to study astrology and found that I might as well have become the Antichrist as far as socialists were concerned. I was, like, 'Well I'm into searching for truth so you can keep your precious beliefs!' And off I went.

The recording isn't too hot and I'm going to try and improve the sound. But yeah: fucking society!!
